Hello,

My name is Adrian, aka Haiku (trip hop) or OONNZZ (dub techno). I am in Brisbane, Australia.

Like many I disassembled a turntable age 7.

Since then I have been using turntables to disassemble aircraft hangar sized nightclubs.

I have always been interested in how this alchemy happens and have read some on suitcases, atoms, rekokuts, xrays, vestax, neumanns etc. I was concerned that this industry would disappear before I could learn how to do this. I am a student here, not a teacher. I am hoping to soak up as much knowledge and experience while I am saving up for a lathe of my own.

Thanks to Steve for setting up the site, and a shout out to fellow Aussie James Sillitoe for producing a quality machine for the 21st century. I hope to be working with you in the future.

A short interview introducing myself: https://youtu.be/wsB5ZxtZVhA?t=1537

Aaaaloha! My Name's Lock, I'm an audio engineer and record producer in Honolulu Hawaii. I work out of my personal project studio, and just got a job running sound at The Lounge at Island Sound for their Saturday gigs, and am worming my way in to engineer and produce records out of their studio as well :D !

I am finishing up a three track EP with one of my bands, the featured track of which we're lathing onto the outside of the CD we're going to release it on.

Right now we're running into two problems, one, I really want to get a formula specific IRIAA phono amp EQ curve VST. The EQs I'm finding online are all approximations made as presets on existing EQ VSTs and I saw a forum post here mentioning someone had an exact equation specific VST for this exact purpose :D So, I'm gonna try get in touch about that. We need to get the lathing done at my friend's spot here in town but he doesn't have the hardware or software to apply the IRIAA curve to it yet, which is why I'm here lookin' for it :3

The second problem is a mechanical problem, but that can wait. Plus, having our first single lathed on these discs be a 42 second long stinger tickles my absurdist nerd heart!

Thanks so much for for having this forum here! I get the feeling I'll be spending a lot of time here lurking until I feel confident enough to participate well!

Lastly, here's a youtube playlist of most of the records I've worked on that I can remember. There's probably a few out there I've forgotten along the way, or that aren't online (including a bluegrass album that was just absolutely amazing! But that's a story for another time :3)

Things I've Worked On :3

Aaaaloha!

Hello,
my name is Griesgram and I'm a abolut newbie.
I love to listen to vinyl records, but never did anything like cutting a record.

A few weeks ago, I saw the Gakken Toy Record Maker/TE - PO-80 record factory and since than I wanna get one.
I read a lot about it, and I think that I watched every video about it. Also I know that it is not an real record lathe, but I think ultra LoFi is a real good thing for my self recordet music.

I'm sorry for my english.

Hey everyone, I'm Nate, aka Knaught.

I started an EDM record label in 2015, which I sold in 2021, and recently just bought back at the end of 2024.

In recent years I have been heavily getting into collecting vinyl, and would love to learn how it's made and maybe even produce my own.

Cheers,
Nate

Hello everyone,
I studied technical acoustics and electronics in the 80ies. Never worked actively in this profession. Earned my money as a consultant.
Never forgot the love to analog audio. Have still a hidden preference for 78 shellacs. Maybe someday in the future I will start cutting 78rpms...
Cheers form Cologne, Germany

Hello, I stumbled upon the forum searching for information about dubplates in general and the T560 specifically. I produce electronic music (DnB mostly), run a monthly electronic music meet up (ten years now) and DJ locally and on internet radio. I am interested to learn more about the record making process. Cheers

Hello,

Very interested in cutting my own records.
I have no experience with lathe cutting, but I'd like to get started soon.

I've seen someone selling three T560s.
https://www.royalmintrecords.com/new-page-1
Can anyone tell me anything about it?
I want to be sure it's a good option before contacting them.
I'll probably have to pay before I get the T560, and it would be great to know your opinions.

Cheers.

Hi all, my name is rob and just purchased an Atom A-101 a few weeks back and learning the ropes. I run a very small punk/experimental/noise music label called spareorgan that has mostly consisted of cassette tapes since 1991. I also run a letterpress studio with 3 antique printing presses that I use for printing the packaging for myself and other artists. Excited to add lathe cut records to spareorgan, but have a lot to learn for sure. I know the Atom/Vanrock machines are not high end by any means, but seemed like a great machine to learn on and someday move up to something more professional...like when I started letterpress printing on a table top Adana 15 years ago and eventually moved up to a Chandler & Price 10x15 and a Vandercook 219. This board has been a wealth of information and I can't thank everyone who contributes enough.

And with that, I’ll also introduce myself. Been lurking for years and just pulled the trigger for a 6N with Jed motor and 1-d head. I’ll get my questions in shortly in the tech section. I’m in central Florida is anyone’s nearby.

Hi there! I'm Dendron! I was looking at creating a new startup that provides an affordable way to start your own pressing plant and wondering about the costs and........

Just kidding.

I'm an electronics engineer who now does software engineering. Particularly in the game industry. Things have been a bit bumpy, and I needed a hobby while job hunting. Decided to find something combining my background in electronics with something I've never done before. This led to me picking up the electric guitar, getting into pedals, and then going down the synth rabbit hole. Landed here eventually. It's a lovely intersection of vintage tech and art.

I've already done lots of reading through threads. I have no questions, since I'm more here to quietly read through discussions and ask the odd question just for understanding when Google or search fails me. Watching videos on the whole process has been absolutely fascinating.

Looking forward to learning more about this craft!

Hi!
I'm Marco,
I'm read this forum from 2021... And it's very interesting.
From 2011 I repair vintage audio (and pro) and project outboard for recording studio and mastering.
I'm designing a quadraphonic console and outboard for cutters.
Many greetings to everyone

Hi, I'm Doug. I enjoy working with and restoring vintage electronics and I just picked up a Wilcox-Gay Recordio SB10. It's it pretty good condition and came with a bunch of blank records. I'm looking forward to learning from this community and diving into the interesting world of making records as I begin the restoration.

Hello!

Located in SE Sweden and I have been messing with hifi gear since I was a kid. Been working as an electronics designer for many years and love bringing old hifi gear back to life.

Always dreamed about being able to cut records myself and now I found the T560 site...suddenly it is in my reach!
