Hi Amp Doc:

Thanks for the tip. I just emailed the seller as looking at the chassis picture it appears to have been modified to a different tube linup. I'm awaiting his reply.

Thanks again.

Hi Amp Doc:

Just if your interested this is a Presto 87A. Not the model I'm looking for but I'd be interested if it turns out to be unmodified. Will have to see what the seller has to say about it.

I have a couple of PRESTO "Type 40 A" (microphone) pre-amps, from the same era, apparently mostly used as a companion to the 85 A and E recording amplifiers.

They are missing a few transformers unfortunately..
What I'm after, to repair/restore these, are a couple of UTC LS10 step up transformers or equiv (50/200/500 ohms pri, 60k ohms sec) and a single KENYON P400 matching output transformer.

Any tips or info appreciated!

Thanks!
Evan

Presto 40-A's

Post: # 17452Unread post EvLoutonian

Does anyone here know, would these pre-amps ("Type 40-A") have been used directly running into a record cutting lathe, or more likely a signal pre-amp, for microphones, etc?
I'm thinking of having them modified for recording mic's etc.
More info and circuit diagram here:
http://www.preservationsound.com/?p=3162

QUOTE: "the Presto 40-A microphone pre-amplifier, the one piece of equipment in this lengthy catalog that could still be of potential use to modern recordists"... This is encouraging!
