Cutting on clear plates?

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Cutting on clear plates?

I've seen that a few people cut on the clear plastic plates from the grocery store. I seem to get a really loud hum out of these plates.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a clear material that cuts with a minimal hum?

A long time ago I discovered the soundscriber dictation machine that I wish I had now. The best I fond to "cut" on (those things emboss) is the acetate used for project folders....
