Alternative to soloplates

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Alternative to soloplates

Since the production of solo picnnic plates has stopped I found these:

http://www.gallerijuel.dk/shop/product_info.php/products_id/2692?osCsid=a1f78f2c04929273092019f38d9e83a6

I am hoping that somebody here can regonize if they can be cutted, before I buy them.

From reading the posts on plasticplates here, I have learned that the dull side is best for cutting, and not the lacquerd side....

thanks

any clear plate i've ever cut on gave me a screechy noise or a hiss louder than any other plates. i never got to use solo plates, i could never find clear ones in my area.. i'm bummed that they're discontinued before i ever got to use them.
also, a lot of other plates i can cut on one side and it sounds pretty good and the other side will be screechy. like..the bottom side of a plastic picnic plate sounds good, but the side you'd eat off of would be a little shiny and would produce excess noise.

they still carry the old Solo plates at this store called "Party City" they carry all types of colors.
i also noticed that the clear ones gave me a loud screechy sound.
i like the solid color ones myself.

Indeed. The metalic color ones will chew up your needles, too...maybe they have flecks of metal or mica in them. I had great luck with plain old purple plates, dull side.
