PRESTO 8D CUTTING LATHE

Image

a bit of history:
we bought this lathe about a year ago form a guy who was
keeping it in a chicken house (empty, no chickens!) for years...
it was used for recording live orchestras in Vienna/Austria.

here's some general information about the lathe (taken from www.televar.com, where you can find more info):
Model 8D and 8G. Introduced in 1947. The 8D
is a rim driven model and can sit on a counter top.
The 8G model is mounted in a cabinet which
contains two direct gear driven motors. Later
models contained 3 motors for 78, 33, & 45 rpm.
The belt behind the door could be re-arranged to
give 6 different lines per inch. The Lathe can easily be switched
to do 'inside out' cuts.

what's includet:
- the complete lathe itself
- a robust , damped, custom made metal stand for the lathe (much like the original one)
- fixed pitch control with stylus heating (controls: start/stop/mark/fast/end, sped adjustment, heating current adjustment with vu meter, all controls have colored LED's to indicate function ).
- new pitch motor and belt driven gears
- siemens controller (micromaster 420) for turntable speed (now running at 45 and 33 rpm, but can do any speed)
- second motor for turntable ,not hooked up (backup or for for 78 rpm)
- 19" rack for all electronics like converters etc.
- microscope
- original manual and papers we have for the machine as well as a box full of spares.

everything was taken apart, cleaned, and reassembled. alle missing parts were replaced by new,
or 'hard to find' old ones.

optional: (we may throw in all this for free if your fast...)
- original amps and controller (90b model?, i guess..., it's the one that was originally inteded to be used with 2 6d lathes)
- presto 1D cutting head
- automatic diameter equalizer

what you need to get going:
- either all of the above and electronics knowledge for dealing with the old walve system, or
- cutting head and controller/amp (like the vinylium vc200, or you might be able to attach the vinylrecorder head)

we would prefer if the buyer would pick up the lathe personally, but we can pack and ship worldwide.
if you pick it up in person, we give you a one day primer in disk cutting.
accomodation and airport pickup is no problem.

ASKING PRICE : 3000.- €, or make an offer

thats about 4600 dollars.
I wish "we" had those 3000 dollars, we would pick up the machine since we're near to the doc.
But I think we're doomed ;)
