Use caution when communicating "off-thread" here

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Use caution when communicating "off-thread" here

I don't quite know how to put this....

I am not alone here in thinking that at least one of our recent contributors is a work of fiction. I've seen it before on other sites. It's nothing terribly new, and it's not necessarily dangerous.

Just remember that, as with the increasingly infamous and common "Nigerian Scams", people are not always what they seem. Exercise a certain reasonable caution when communicating with people from this site through email or private messages. Don't give out any passwords or personal information. If making financial transactions, take reasonable, rational safety measures.

I think, in this particular case, the danger may be more a matter of befriending or confiding in someone who isn't remotely what they seem.

And don't worry, I'm not talking about YOU. I already delivered an explicit message to the party in question, who I also found trolling on other sites. If I misjudged, I guess I was just mean to an innocent party. If so, I apologize for the collateral damage, and I hope you will forgive me. But I think I'm right.

I hate to deliver such a paranoid message to you-all. I may even be wrong, but I do trust my gut. If anything seems suspicious, please do not hesitate to contact me.

All my best,

Steve

PS....if you'd like a laugh on a related topic, here's my extremely off-color negotiation with a "Nigerian scammer" from a few years ago. Remember...it's rather filthy. Not for the puritanical.

Well, I typically don't go for such stuff but THAT was FUNNY !
I especially liked the part about the secret codes for the big big bank accounts.
