Does anyone have this? Want to sell it? Know where I can get it? Have a pdf of it? Know the publisher and can talk them into selling it as an ebook?

I tried searching for highland labs and Barry Brose, apparently web site and phone are inactive. I also tried a search on Amazon with no result. Sorry, it is a great book.

Hi,
I did some research today. I discovered that Barry passed away on Jan 15, 2013. The copyright shows as Patricia Morrison in 2005. As this was self published, I'm not sure if there is any way to determine who now holds the copyright. If we can figure this out and get permission, I would be willing to scan my copy and make it available.

MarkRob ALWAYS wins
Cheers Sir...
I wonder if this Patricia Morrison is gearheadgirl on this forum?
also could she be Pat Bag???
That lady is AMAZING so I could see this
as a possibility...
It seemed to me that GHG was the publisher ov the book. as the org post ov the book by her seems to indicate. that is who i got my org. copy from. yet now even the yahoo.com address has gotten no reply as ov yet.
says last on in feb. 16 & what I'm guessing is before that she was on in july. yet for no response from email i still hope she is just upon an extended holiday.
I have been now looking for about a month or two. Check MANY book sites. Even a couple Sir MarkRob turned me on to for other rare books. Yet still no luck sadly.
I am resting easier now though, knowing MR is on the job.
Glad to see you around btw always a pleasure to see you about.
Cheers

Re: Bob Morrison Disk Recording 1930-1960
I doubt very much that Pat Morrison is in this group. I knew Bob and Pat personally, from when Bob worked for Ampex. Great fellow. Barry Brose never did much to market Bob's book, and I know that after Bob died, Pat was hoping that the book would sell and help augment her Social Security.
I just called Pat at the last number I had for her and Bob. She doesn't know what became of Barry's stock of Bob's book, but does have three copies she'd be willing to sell for $25 each, plus $3 for Media Mail. She's up there in years and not moving quickly, but has her wits about her and would mail these out in good time. Write her at: Patricia Morrison, 819 Coventry Road, Kensington, CA 94707. And please be nice; she's a special person.

Hi,
Thanks for tracking her down. Do you think there is any chance she has access to the original files used to do the print run of the book? If so, maybe somebody here could keep this in publication and provide some extra income to her. I don't see this as a huge money maker, more a labor of love. Would there be any way to make this work public domain?

Re: Bob Morrison Disk Recording 1930-1960
Hi, Mark,
I don't think Pat has any of the original files, those were probably lost with Barry Brose's stuff. I have a couple of feelers out to find what happened to Barry's stock of the books, but if that comes to a dead end I'd be eager to sanction someone's scanning the entire book and offering it to members or others for a nominal ($5?) donation to Pat in Bob's memory. I'd want to exhaust tracking-down the 'real thing' first, of course, but the knowledge in Bob's book (and in other out-of-print ones) should be made available to disc recording fans. I know Bob loved to share his information in this area.
If scanning a clean copy is the only way to go, I'd sacrifice one of mine so that it could be disassembled and scanned 'professionally.' I know that if I did it myself the file size would be huge... what with all the illustrations. There must be a secret to maintaining good resolution with smaller files, but I haven't discovered it yet.

would a check made out to Pat Morrison be acceptable for payment?grooveguy wrote:I doubt very much that Pat Morrison is in this group. I knew Bob and Pat personally, from when Bob worked for Ampex. Jim thank you for the info. I hope I saw this in time. I have been looking for a replacement since February.
by the way, saving files as "PNG" keeps good quality & saves space.

Re: Bob Morrison Disk Recording 1930-1960
Glad we were able to find a few surplus ones, and all in new, unread condition. I also got in touch with another fellow who was involved with Bob in the original project; he has three. Same deal, $25 + $3. He's got them on their way to me, so I'll be sending those out once they get here. But in the meantime, do please contact Pat Morrison at the address above, I'd like to make sure she gets her share of the wealth first.

Re: Bob Morrison Disk Recording 1930-1960
Hi,
My name is Ross Franseen. I live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. I knew both Bob Morrison and Barry Brose before they passed away.
Some posts show an interest in Bob and Barry's video, "Disk Recording 1925-1975." Shortly before Barry passed, he sent me several videos and some video equipment. This video was among them. It may be possible that I can redistribute this and other interesting videos produced at Highland Labs. I am now looking into who owns the copyright.
I don't know how much interest there may be in these videos, but having viewed "Disk Recording 1925-1975," I find it extremely informative.
If anybody is interested, they may contact me: Ross Franseen, (925) 939-2036, rossfranseen@gmail.com
I will see what needs to be done to make this material available legally.

Re: Bob Morrison Disk Recording 1930-1960
Here is some further information on the Barry Brose/Bob Morrison video "Disk Recording 1925-1975."
"Disk Recording 1925-1975" is a video produced by Barry Brose and Bob Morrison for the 2006 Audio Engineering Society (AES) conference in San Francisco, California. It covers developments in the field of sound recording, mostly by Western Electric. There is some informative stereo cutting information as well.
Shortly before Barry Brose passed away he sent me video sub-masters of his various productions. I am hoping to redistribute some of them as soon as I work out the legal issues. Classic Microphones Parts 1, 2 & 3 is another set I'm hoping to make available.
All four videos are historically informative. I'll probably be charging $25.00 (US) plus shipping for the videos. This is the same price Barry was charging before he died. One thing I'm thinking of doing differently is combining Classic Microphones on a single DVD and charging $40.00 for the set. This would be a savings of $35.00, but most importantly it would keep all three parts together.
I still need to take care of copyright issues before I can release anything.
Thanks for your interest,
Ross Franseen

I am interested in all of the above. If there are any more copies of the book, I would absolutely love to purchase/make a donation for one. Same with videos.
Thanks!
