Re: new guy here a few questions
yes it will do whatever you do to the record if you backcue the music goes in reverse and follows your exact movements
djs use this scratch in real time
you can use serato,traktor,virtual dj,mixxx
i use mixxx its free and works very well
im working on recording the control signal and cutting lathe cut record of it for fun.

i cut this early this morning
it is embossed onto a blank side of a 12 inch single i had in my record collection
embossing on actual vinyl is amazing and seems to be the loudest and cleanest and most frequency response so far
im pretty impressed with this
only problem is vinyl melts super fast when you leave the heat lamp on after you stop the deck lol
i could only get a few seconds of this after i cut it i feel super dense for not thinking of this but clear blanks dont do this
so i wasnt thinking
cheers

Re: new guy here a few questions
another cut i did today
i have been doing a lot of processing of the audio before i cut a track and i have gotten not too bad at eliminating the high frequency breakup of vocals and higher octave instruments, a lot of this is recording pink noise and cancelling out the problem areas of the signal by sweeping the frequencys with a very narrow bandwidth q and increasing the gain to 30 db or more and sweeping the signal to find the resonances that really stand out as harse and then lower just those frequencies by 20 db or more.
its coming along

Re: new guy here a few questions
here is my setup for cutting blanks i went out and bought a bandsaw today and made a circle jig for it to cut blanks
this is a test using wood to show the circle
ill be cutting polycarbonate on this rig and i bought a specific blade to cut lexan for it that should give very smooth cuts into the polycarbonate
this is a super fast way to do this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0t_gu53U1Q&feature=youtu.be
this setup cost me 200 bucks

Re: new guy here a few questions
i picked up a circle punch today to make labels for my records, its 3.5'' in diameter so it will work well and will save me from buying precut ones
i will make a jig to put them all in to drill out the 9/32 hole, ill be able to print 6 at once on a standard sheet of sticker paper

Re: new guy here a few questions
Once again, good progress, Fred! I really like your circle cutter. Because lacquer blanks are getting so expensive to replace, I'm going to be experimenting with embossing as well. Toward that end, I've ordered and received a few 12" squares of Lexan in 1/16" thickness, which I have discovered can be cut with aircraft snips quite nicely. That will rough them into circles, and a jig inspired by what you've done with your bandsaw will allow finishing them off on my belt sander. I almost bought a used scroll saw for this, but a $25 one I found on Craig's List would have taken a lot of fixing up.
I still think there's work to be done in the matter of embossing styli. You seem to be getting good results with the new tungsten one, and I know others have used jeweled tips and even a traditional cutting stylus mounted backwards. Time will tell, let's keep at it.
