Caruso Head

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hello Trolls,

Is anyone here using flo's caruso head with the T560?
What is involved to make this modification? Would Souris main unit need bypassing..
I have contacted Flo directly to see if the head is available, just awaiting his reply

Best,

Flo will tell you more specifically, but I've noticed the Caruso does have it's own preamp boards, all audio would likely go through there and bypass souri's main unit
making lathe cuts on a Presto 6N, HIFI stereo cuts on vinylrecorder

i dont want you to encourage to upgrade your wonderfull vr system
but if you want to play away from home
here a small step to step guide.
*******************************************************
for an upgrade you need:

- dump the original electronics. or use as a doorstopper. i know its hard to send this wonderfull engineered highlight in germany audio technology to recycling. but your sound deserves it.
(in fact all the electronics except the motor control is not used anymore. amp.head.cables.)

- order a caruso head. sadly i wait for a few more parts until you can get a new one. but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
- build your own caruso preamps. or buy ready to use & tested preamp boards and build them into a case with a +/-15V power supply.
- buy a descent power amp with 26dB gain.and approx 100-200W per channel. QSC GX3 works great. there might be better stuff around. up to you.
- build the cutterhead cable with LC network and fusebox as described on vinylike.com or order a ready to go one. i am close to release a new RC network board with cutter current display which makes this step a lot more easy.
- you need a small adapterplate to fit the caruso. i update a drawing as soon as i find my notes. the VR mechanics has plenty of space to fit almost any cutterhead you can imagine.
- adjust everything and enjoy your cuts! finally there is nice and precise low end. people on the dancefloor are deeply grateful. your clients will start to ask what magic happened since the last cut.
in the end it will look something like this:<br>

Hi Flo - have you found your notes for the adapter plate yet?
As soon as know how to make one of these for my VR I'll put in an order for a Caruso :)

Thanks as always...

Ok i don't think Flo is going to come through with the goods. So who else has is making quality feedback heads that will fit on a VR?
