Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Thefollowing is a sample from a recent Test Cut i did!
Please notethe frequency response above 10kHz!
*I have to notice that the overall performance is EQ optimized , i mean i fixed the resonant frequencies about 400-500 kHz and emphasize the 10-12kHz , 16kHz is 0dB and 20kHz is -12dB!

Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Hey, Tasos, what are we listening to on the audio portion of that YouTube video? Wasn't sure if it was music or an old Internet dial-up connection sound.
Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Thats a part of the track with lots if high frequencies!
Sorry what you hear the piezo-speaker of my vintage oqo01
If you like the real sample of the track i can send you the .wav file!

Yes, indeed, I would love to hear it! Can you put it up somewhere and link it for the group?

Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Great work, Tasos! Have you had a chance to experiment with having a sapphire cut to your new triangle shape? I have a few worn-out cutting sapphires and I am considering having a local jeweler I know try to re-shape one into a cone and one into your design so I can compare the two.
Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Not really but i will maybe try when i have time. But I am really curious about the results! Please post here if you're going to try

Hmmm. Just checked the Forum Index and couldn't find a Classified section. Used to be one, I thought.

Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Hey there - I noticed that a bit earlier today, and I've been seeing some other odd behavior as well (post dates changing, threads appearing intermittently, etc), but I think it probably has to do with the site issues Steve E. mentioned here:

Great work! Also from my side congrats! Only the length specification on the specification sheet with 1.8mm cannot be correct.

Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Good catch, FP! 18mm is more like it... or, if you're anti-metric, 5/8 to 3/4 inch.
Re: New Embossing Stylus!
I always had the feeling that something was not right on the spec sheet, now that you told me I see what was and fixed it alreadyfarmersplow wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 12:35 pmGreat work! Re: New Embossing Stylus!
Very good, Tasos. While you're at it, you also might consider eliminating the spaces in your email address at the bottom. I'm sure that most seasoned email users know that the @ is not separated fore and aft, but making that footer look more like the one in your icon would be good, I think. I know, it's nice to have that line the same length as your business name, but centered would look good too.
Re: New Embossing Stylus!
I know seems to have lot of space but the truth is that this card is actually small and leaving space between make it more visible and easy to read. If I make it close I believe they'll be confused.. but thanks anywaygrooveguy wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 1:50 pmVery good, Tasos. Re: New Embossing Stylus!
I've been manufacturing for 6 years the sapphire embossing styli at "https://nylathecuts.com/" for Mike Dixon which is available exclusively only through his website "https://www.recordlatheparts.com/products/sapphire-embossing-cones" if you would like to learn more, watch actual use on my YouTube channel "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh97II404kw"
Re: New Embossing Stylus!
I have examine & emboss many hours using both Solid Tungsten cone and Sapphire cone . Sapphire cone is a big upgrade over the solid Tangsten cone in terms of frequency response and clarity due to its lighter total mass but also higher noise and static noise due to insolation properties of the stone.meltingpotsound wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 10:41 pmI've been manufacturing for 6 years the sapphire embossing styli at "https://nylathecuts.com/" for Mike Dixon which is available exclusively only through his website "https://www.recordlatheparts.com/products/sapphire-embossing-cones" if you would like to learn more, watch actual use on my YouTube channel "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh97II404kw"
Making a stylus with aluminium shank and tungsten cone tip , in equal mass to the sapphire , solves the static noise issue and actually has an even more natural frequency response!
Second issue is the tip design. Using an advanced Triangle tip instead of Cone , you'll notice more extended frequency response on both lows & highs and more clarity. That's something I have experiment & experience with all these by time.
The last months i did experiment with different angles of the triangle tip and finally ended on 100° groove angle which I find to be the more optimum in terms of frequency response , clarity and noise floor. Lifetime I have tried myself is 30hours , frequency response remains at 95% with no noticable distortion.
All tests done on my environment with average room temp of 22°C and humidity between 50-55%.
All blank discs prepared using light fluid, no heat on the blanks or the stylus was applied.
