Re: DIY lathe , new to this , what am i doing wrong ? :)
Hello,
1.6, (what yields more or less 1/16 inches) is good.
All stylii I used were that measure.

Hi Constantin!
So long time we did not communicate!
My machine (ADR 2021) became ready. I did tried to emboss with homemade HSS steel stylus but I got a HUGEbackground noiise. I did tried many solutions but without success.
Please describe me the stylus you are using in your machine. I saw your excellent results so maybe you could help.
Main data are dimensions and shape of your stylus and also the material of blank disc used by you.
Thanks for your help.
Merry Xmas!

Hello Constantin!
Congratulations for your project, it's really well designed. I am working on my first handmade lathe project too and I have been embossing only with CD's and I had problems with the output volume and surface noises. Do you have any advice? Your cutting sound for me is up than I wish to get, really outstanding.
I post my doubts here and have some tips from Thomas:

Keep going with this great project!
Best wishes
Joel

Hi, Nedelscu,
Nice to run into you here. I think your progress is great. Have you yet tried actually cutting or are you committed to embossing? From what I have read & seen, stereo is harder to achieve with embossing. I have a feeling your head would be great for cutting too.
