PVC Recycling
I'm looking for an in-house solution for recycling PVC. Has anyone here had any experience with an equipment supplier (preferably eurozone)?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: PVC Recycling
You simply need a granulator and punch to punch out the label part. Make sure the throat size of the granular is sufficient to take a 12” record. Must be a granulator and not a hammer mill.
Re: PVC Recycling
I have a question regarding re-grind....what is the preferred method of separating the super fine pvc and dust? Is it commonplace to wash the granulated flash? If so, how do you dry it?
Cheers

Re: PVC Recycling
Why separate? We granulate flash and use straight into the hopper or blend with virgin. No issues
Re: PVC Recycling
I guess Im just paranoid about anything foreign damaging the stampers. Our granulator has a dust extraction arm but yeah, just was wondering if anyone out there goes to any length to clean up the re-grind...

Re: PVC Recycling
Take it straight from the flash bin to the granulator and add in 30% re-grind to the virgin pellets. PVC dust and PVC chunks… it’s all the same.
Just don’t pick up flash off the floor. Once it’s on the floor, throw it away or sell it to the plastic recyclers.

Re: PVC Recycling
Agreed, no paper from labels, hasn't been on the floor and has gone directly into the garbage pail for collection. It's good to go.
You can always add a magnetic sifter if applicable, but clean practices always prevail.

Re: PVC Recycling
Cheers everyone. I've been grinding it all up and storing it in new plastic barrels. Time to recycle!

Re: PVC Recycling
Lee, the idea of magnetic sifter suggested above is to catch any metallic impurities,
These can come from the blades in the granulator chipping so don't granulate pucks.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if you knew where I could find a 12" vinyl punch.
We're opening up a pressing shop in Canada this summer and are equipping it with what we need.
Do you have any brands to recommend? I've seen the P-50 Automatic Record Reclaimer Label Punch from RPA, but I'm wondering if there are other brands out there, or if it can be bought used.
Thank you!

We had this designed and made by a local engineering company.Mary wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 2:50 pmHi everyone. I was wondering if you knew where I could find a 12" vinyl punch.

Based in Australia so shipping your way could be expensive...

This punch will do trimmed and untrimmed records. As far as I know they have a new revised version that gives more options to its operation. It is also a smaller footprint and a bit more compact.
Re: PVC Recycling
Oh thank you! Awesome that you had the opportunity to have it custom made and now available to others.
I'm going to contact them and see if it's realistic for us. Maybe the compact version. As you say, shipping might be quite expensive.
Re: PVC Recycling
RPA makes a center label punch out that we use. Its expensive but ultimately is worth it because it is fast and accurate. As far as granulators we have a Conair Wortex JC-10 that is almost 30 years old but is a beast and grinds everything no problem.
Re: PVC Recycling
I built one from mostly scrap steel, its not a precision tool, but it knocks out a label as fast as you can load it. Cost less than $1000 in pneumatic parts.

Re: PVC Recycling
Looks neat. Is that steel plate the disc sits on oxidised??
Next step is to tilt it back by 45 degrees and install an actuator at the back to stop the record at the punch position. Once punched and the actuator releases, the the record falls into a waste bin.

Re: PVC Recycling
The die plate was cleaned back with a scotchbrite pad on my angle grinder.
Re: PVC Recycling
Very nice! It is great that you have the skill and knowledge to build your own. I finally found one similar to the one you built with the company that sold us the machines.

Re: PVC Recycling
You don't happen to still have your building plans?
I want to build one myself. But I am not sure what kind of cylinder to get. And how much pressure to aply.

Hello everyone!
I have a loooot of stock 12"/7" black & coloured vinyl from surplus productions.
PM me for details.
