Interesting Rek-O-Kut overheads on ebay

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Interesting Rek-O-Kut overheads on ebay

Someone has listed two(!) modified Rek-O-Kut M12s overhead on ebay, they both appear to have been modified a while back to drive the leadscrew via a motor rather than from the turntable. It looks like they drilled a hole in the gear end and added a shaft and gear, and that is geared to a motor. One of them has some electronics mounted on the other end, with a pot of some kind. Sample pics below. If anyone buys either, please let the list list some details of the mod!

Hi There,
Interesting indeed, I'm curious that the Leadscrew drive now appears to be driven by what appears to be a simple shaded-pole motor, but as far as I can tell this would still provide "Fixed Pitch" as it were.
The other mystery is about the electronics you mentioned. There appears to be a couple of Sprague Capacitors, and here I'm guessing again, could these be for arc suppression across the contacts of what to my eye looks to be a "Semi-Rotary" Switch (Perhaps a Limit switch to automatically kill power to the Leadscrew Drive Motor??)
The same seller appears to have listed this item twice with slightly different Photos, here's the link :- https://www.ebay.com/itm/316248777427?
Other more knowledgeable Trolls more versed with these components might maybe proffer their own ideas, but heigh-ho as you say, quite interesting
Regards Soulbear:) :D :P

I think it's actually two different overheads, the date stickers on the casings are different (Feb and April 1967), and only one has the additional electronics. Someone was bust back in 1967!
