Working on some CAD and looking for feedback
Hello everyone
For a little while I have been doing some CAD work on a lathe I would like to build. But I wanted to get some expert feedback from the people on this forum about where its is at now.
There are some things missing from the model that I will try to cover in this post.

This image shows what I have basically done overall. The main thing that does all the spinning is a brushless motor with a small belt tensioner at the rear of the machine

This one shows the machine with the cutting platter removed. This reveals the pulley that the platter is meant to be attached to. The speed holes around the two diameters are not necessarily permanent. This thing is meant to have a lot of its parts 3D printed and this could save on plastic at the cost of rigidity. This could be alleviated by replacing the plastic with cement. There is also a hole in the center for a pin that has threaded holes on both sides. This is so that a blank disc could be secured down to the platter. There is an additional threaded hole to retain the pin

This one shows how the platter sits on a needle thrust bearing. The center pin from the previous image goes into an angular contact bearing to help keep the thing spinning while under belt tension.

This shows the frame that the machine will sit on and the encoder and brushless motor. Not shown is a coupler and a mount for the encoder that bolts to the back of the previously shown plate.

These one show the cutter head that I am working on. It is meant to use the DAEX25FHE drivers and is largely based on the schlockwood one. The dovetailed piece is meant to be a method to couple a cutting stylus to the drivers using spring steel wire. The second image is meant to showcase that I intend to use some drylin bushings and linear rods to move the cutter head around.
I haven't gotten completely around how the cutter head is going to be designed as I would like it to be able to have an adjustable z position. I have no concrete ideas about where that is going to go

Hi,
Nice initial designs you have there. Are you aiming to emboss or cut?
I found that the DAEX25FHE drivers were still too weak for my particular cutter head design(s), even after upping to the 25mm from the smaller (19mm?) drivers. I prototyped two heads with those (25mm) drivers and found quite a lot of intermodulation-type distortion, with any frequency above about 5KHz.
Looking at the frequency response of the drivers, it's clear that it's a full-range driver, not a high frequency tweeter which is better suited to a cutter head's demands.
If you are interested, I can chase up an audio sample of my v3 cutter head with this distortion present to illustrate.

I'm not an expert, but this certainly looks nice!
The holes on the base-plate though, are they counter-sunk to connect to T or V slot nuts on the other side? Or are they there for some other reason?

Yes. Couple the plate to the frame of the machine
