Hello! I am a newbie and I am here to learn. I am living in Stockholm (Sweden). I am something between musician and technian / enthusiast. I repair my vintage gear by myself. Brands that are in my studio is Scully, Lyrec,Nagra,Studer, Sela. I have dreamed about a record cutting lathe, and recently, I run into some parts that had been a cutting lathe.
So basically, I have a mono cutting head and some mechanical parts.
The most critical is if this cutter head can be repaired?
It is a Lyrec A43 mono cutterhead from 40/50s. I still waiting for this to arrive.

Hey,

I’m relatively new to cutting, and got a heads-up to check out Lathe Trolls when I got a 2nd hand VR.

Thanks to everyone sharing the knowledge. Feeling excited to learn, and be part of this community.

Hello all:)

First of all, thank you for this wonderful forum.
I’ve spent quite some time reading many posts, and now I’m ready to introduce myself.

My name is Jonas, and I live in Denmark. I’m incredibly lucky to have inherited a Lyrec lathe (currently not in working condition). Most of my background is in music production, and while I’ve only done a few cuts myself on workshops and attended a few of my masters being cut, I’ve dreamt of learning the art of vinyl cutting for most of my adult life.

So here I am — a humble newbie — soon to receive the Lyrec, eager to dive in and learn as much as I can. I really look forward to connecting with you all, sharing progress, and learning from the incredible knowledge in this community.

Have a wonderful Sunday

Best regards
Jonas

Hello troll community,
I'm new to the forum. I started burning vinyl about eight months ago out of passion. I'm learning and making progress. I burn with a Presto 1D and a Rek O Kut amp that I had restored.
But it still has some problems, and I need to take it to an electrician. I need a replacement amp.
Does anyone have any advice on buying a working amp?
Thank you.

Helloooooo! Took me a bit of time to get here, but I'm here! And very grateful to be here! Thanks for having me :)
My name is Gem, I'm a trans woman, an artist, I'm interested in writing and recording (obviously). My academic background is in music (piano and drumming) and physics (theoretical, and High-energy experimental particle physics). I can talk a lot about protons, quarks and the electromagnetic fields, but - practically - I'm not the best. I can wire a plug and do a bit of soldering, but honestly, I might be a bit dangerous in terms of health and safety haha! (I come from the conceptual/mathematical end of physics and the practical end of music (drumming mostly)

Greetings to the community.
I live in Norway and I am a vinyl enthusiast, music lover and band member and have an interest in vintage audio equipment. Been buying, restoring and trading turntables ++ for some years and just acquired a UK lathe cutting unit from Simon Sound Service with the goal of cutting own material in low numbers. Sadly there is very little information on this unit online, and I hope to learn from this community so I can enjoy this historical steampunk gem and make some low-fi cuts for the merch table.
Cheers

That is a great looking machine, I understand why you want to rehab it and keep it alive!

Whats up whats up! Im Aaron C Schroeder, stoked to be starting my embossing journey with you all!

I was lucky enough to pick up a super beautiful Presto 6n with Van Eps Duotone cutter head from a dear friend here in Seattle (Ballard represent!) WA and am only a few weeks in to working with it but so far WOW, is it fun! Just completed my first 12" double side cut for a friend and not only did it totally play on their machine it sounded great! Def went thru a number of 7"s to get it right though LOL.

Even though Im a Super Newb to lathe cutting Ive been a producer/engineer for 20+ years so that knowledge and experience has really come in handy so far. That being said, I'll be the one in here asking the simplest of dumb-dumb questions as I still have "the fear" in me that I'll muck something up with the machine. :)

Here's one such question for those in the know: what brand oil and lubricant are we using to keep our machines running smooth and quiet? The manual I found online mentioned 3 to 1 oil (but what does that mean?!) and VASELINE???

If you wanna check out my producer/engineer work, this is my studio - www.piercedearsrec.com

Cheers!

3 in 1 is a basically a lubricant that also prevents rust and cleans, they work great but can get a little gunky over time. If it is purely lubrication you want, Singer machine oil is usually a good choice. Whichever suits your needs :)

Hi all

Thank you very much to Steve for activating my account and for having me.

I retired early to start a music label primarily focused around classical music with some jazz, with an interest in reissuing music on LP from the 1950s through 70s. It is highly unlikely I will be able to afford a lathe but I still wanted to learn about cutting LPs as I would like to use amps I am building to power the cutting head at someone else's mastering facility.

Heya all,

Thanks for letting me join this community.

I started a diy hardcore punk label and bought a double tape deck recorder to release music on cassettes. I would like to one day also cut lathe records for bands so I decided to start my research early. Fingers crossed I'll learn something from looking in here.

Cheers

Hello everyone my name is Corey and I am a newbie.

I am very thankful that this site exists. And I will most be contributing anyway I can. Starting with $$ and I have hope to eventually contribute knowledge and resources.

I have been lucky enough to have almost a decade of experience repairing and restoring tube audio equipment. And have an opportunity to assist a friend in an attempt to restore his Presto 8N. I look forward to getting to know the members of the Lathe troll community.

I will be documenting my projects and I’ll give an update when I upload the content. For anyone who might be interested in watching and hopefully lending some advice on the subjects.

Hi,

I’m Mark, a DJ and Producer from the UK. I want to cut my own tracks to vinyl so I can play them at gigs on turntables (not keen on the new digital approach to DJing with controllers etc).

The problem is I’ve no idea how or where to start!

I want my own lathe and the knowledge to be able to use it. This forum seems like a good place to start.

Cheers

Hi Mark!

We are a UK based supplier and we have a lathe called the MC-02 which comes with training. There’s a big waiting list but get in touch if interested. There’s plenty of info about the lathe in here so have a search around and see what you think
