Dashpot (VR T-560 only)
My Shank have introduced an upgraded dashpot for VR users. This understated component serves a very critical function and this upgrade is significant:
Enhanced Stability – Cleaner Cuts

Upgrade your VinylRecorder with this custom-engineered dashpot, designed to dramatically improve cutting stability and groove precision. By absorbing unwanted vertical vibrations, it ensures smoother tracking, cleaner modulation, and a noticeably quieter groove, even at higher volumes.

Robust and Precision-Engineered

Made from durable, high-quality 3D-printed components, this dashpot is lightweight yet solid. It features a precision-calibrated fluid piston for finely adjustable damping, allowing you to perfectly adapt it to your cutting head’s characteristics.

Professional Cutting Results

By minimizing mechanical feedback and stylus bounce, this dashpot enhances groove accuracy, improves signal-to-noise ratio, and supports more stable vertical modulation—especially critical when cutting bass-heavy or complex material.

⚙️ Plug-and-Play Compatibility

Designed specifically for VinylRecorder arms, it installs in minutes without any modifications. Ideal for both home setups and professional vinyl mastering workflows.

✅ Made for Dubplate and Master Cutting

Whether you’re cutting acetates, dubplates, or master discs, this dashpot is a simple but powerful upgrade that brings greater control and cleaner results to your cutting process.

Do you have any recordings [cuts, not pressings] on this disc? I would be happy to buy 100 copies for testing, what is the price for 12? Regards.

Hey,
I’m interested in using the pressed discs.
I noticed here they are made from recycled materials, and on the website it mentions they’re recyclable.

Are you able to share the details about specific type of plastic they’re made of?

Would I have to return ship them to manufacturer for recycling? Would this service included or an extra cost?

I could not recycle them locally without knowing.

Also interested in whether the organic pigments, plant-based, animal derived or synthetic?

Thanks!

TheVinylCountdown,

If you are in the UK and engaged in commercial activity then you are legally required to use trade waste services. You can't funnel it through household waste, even if your commercial activity is from a residential address.

With the pressed blanks, you can inform the company that removes your trade waste that it contains no PVC or PETG - so you will not require a specialised recycling service/processor.

Cheers,
Michael

It’s just a hobby for now…

I am in the UK, but it sounds like they’re not in the “widely recyclable” category for me. Would likely be landfill without knowing the material.
Thanks!

I really wanted to try the pressed V2 blanks, so I got some to test out for recycling purposes. Two were tested.

The results are in the image below.

Weirdly they came back as PETG discs. Hope this information is useful.

This is just brutal. I'm shocked by this result. Why is this? I thought it was just me. So it's not the lathe.

Well, maybe they will finally now stop going on about it being PET

TheVinylCountdown -- are you aware of the limitations of FTIR to analyse polymers?

Please supply the entire report. I will want the name of the company that did the analysis so that I can at the very least confirm the samples you supplied with them directly.

As it stands you haven’t supplied evidence of anything.

I will sacrifice my eyes on the fact that the My Shank pressed blanks are not PETG. I know what the compound is, and it isn't PET or PETG.

But you don't have to believe me. If you believe it is PETG, then buy some and approach a pressing plant to have some blanks made up. Let us all know how you get on, but it will be the same disastrous outcome as the folks who assumed it was PET and rushed to market (funded by pre-orders with marketing copied verbatim from My Shank) with a product that didn't work at all.

Ultimately, if you can't tell the difference between a PETG blank and the My Shank pressed blanks simply by using them, then, well, that is insightful.

Take a clear PETG blank and a clear pressed blank - cut. You can hear the difference. FFS you can feel the difference!

If the pressed blanks are PETG, then why do you need to adjust calibration when switching from PETG to My Shank pressed? If the latter was PETG, then this would not be necessary.

Furthermore, there are 2 compounds used by My Shank for their pressed blanks. A v1 and a v2. The v2 is an evolution of the v1 where findings from people using v1 were used to develop the v2 compound. The v2 offers noticeable differences in the quality of the cut (more info on our website). The v1 is now being phased out. Now, I ask you, if the pressed blanks were PETG, then why do we need to adjust calibration when switching between v1 and v2? If they are both PETG this would not be necessary.

Here, let me say it another way: please just think this though. Absolutely nothing about the accusation that My Shank pressed blanks are PETG makes any sense whatsoever. It is utterly absurd. It is the silliness of claiming they are PET all over again. YAWN

Lastly,

TheVinylCountdown
I am in the UK, but it sounds like they’re not in the “widely recyclable” category for me.
If you are in the UK then you will be aware that the recyclability of plastic products can vary significantly depending on the type of polymer used and the recycling facilities available in each local authority area. Interestingly enough Trading Standards contacted us because of a "complaint" they received about our website stating that they are recyclable. In all honesty we were not aware of the compliance with relevant legislation that is required to support that claim, so we removed it from our website so as to protect the compound and its composition***.

The fantastic thing is that thanks to this "complaint" we worked with Trading Standards and can now claim that the environmental statements we make on our website are clear, accurate, and compliant with the CMA’s Green Claims Code and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.

You can read more about it here: FAQ

As an aside, 12-18 months ago it would be unheard of for someone to “complain” about something we said on our website. But here we are and what a depressing reflection it is of the types of personalities that have started operating in the industry.

*** all these efforts to discover the compound of the My Shank pressed blanks are desperate. If as much time and effort was put into actual innovation, our entire industry would benefit. There is nothing to stop anyone from committing the time and money to bring their own pressed blanks to the market. Nothing, except of course the knowledge, expertise, and huge resources required .... it is just so much easier to talk sh*t and resort to these extremely obvious tactics instead -- how desperate & pathetic.

===

PETG — yes, as a business we make it a point on our website to state why this compound sucks. I mean sure it is “okay” and if people are happy with the “okay” option when there is an amazing option, then that is their prerogative. At the same time it is also our right to state to our customers why PETG sucks - and we can also do this in the comfort of knowing that our position is supported by the fundaments of carbon chemistry and is based on well-understood principles of surface chemistry and tribochemistry. All that matters is for us to be clear about our position for the benefit of our customers -- we don’t give a sh*t who uses it or who supplies it as they can do whatever the hell they want.

This is all very tedious for me. Writing this post is taking me away from the important things: preparing our business for further innovations that My Shank has in production; preparing to photograph new colours (taking it beyond the 28 we currently stock); cutting orders for our customers (never been busier thanks to the pressed blanks); supplying our distribution customers; starting a new LTD business; and generally just loving cutting again and enjoying that the genie is truly out of the bottle.

BF!

Wow.
I don’t really have to disclose anything further to you. In all honesty, I think your response is a bit rude and unprofessional for such an established supplier.

Anyone who has their hands on yours or other blanks can test them, it wasn’t a big deal.

I’ll move on. Thanks but no thanks!

Wait, hold up -- you roll into a thread for a business that supplies My Shank products to the UK, with an accusation that a product they sell is simply rebranded PETG - and you do all of this with nothing more than an image of a random analysis ... and I am "rude" and "unprofessional" for asking you to support your assertion?

I am "rude" and "unprofessional" for pointing out how utterly absurd the claim is that they are PETG?

F*ck me. Absolutely unreal. Sadly your response does not surprised me at all.

There's no point in hiding it; everyone knows it all. It used to be a very profitable business, raking in the cash because there was no other choice, plus the prices are far from cheap. Now everything's crumbling; people are buying cheaper PETG sheets and cutting their own blanks, which cost next to nothing. Diamond cutters are also available in China, and they're now in abundance, not for 180 euros, but for $100, $120. Plus, there are no problems with registering to buy anything. But there, I can approve or disapprove registration on the site. Plus, even if you're registered, you can be kicked out at any time. People already buy for a lot of money, so why this attitude, these idiots? You don't want to sell anything on eBay, for example. Although I've asked you many times to list your goods on eBay, it's easier for many people, including me, to buy them that way rather than through third parties. With this attitude, you'll simply lose customers and your business will be ruined. The days when it was difficult to find good plastic and diamonds are long gone. Everything is available now and much cheaper than yours. Yes, there's a problem with flowers, but that's also temporary. You're honestly just a bit greedy, thinking this would last forever, just you being the suppliers of these consumables. But others see there's demand. They make their products cheaper, more accessible, and that's why everyone's buying yours. Maybe it's time to put aside your pride, your self-importance, and think about this. Think about pricing, availability, and not overstate the quality of your product, claiming it's the best.

Thank you for your message, even if, let’s be honest, it reads more like a stream of frustration than a structured analysis.

You mention cheaper products, alternatives, competitors. That’s perfectly fine. The market is open and everyone is free to buy whatever they want. What’s less acceptable is turning that freedom into a series of accusations. If some people are happy elsewhere, let them go.
But don’t expect us to lower our standards just because others are cutting theirs.

Everyone is free to choose their business partners, and that includes us. That freedom is healthy, but it also comes with a mutual respect for the choices made on both sides.

I don’t block people randomly. For example, I blocked you from all my social media channels because you repeatedly posted without adding anything meaningful, and not even in English. No one understands what you’re trying to say and frankly it’s exhausting.

I protect a professional ecosystem built on reliability, transparency and respect for rules. If that irritates you, maybe it’s because you don’t share those values. As for eBay, I don’t do bargain-bin business. My products are technical, specialised and sold in a professional setting.
If that doesn’t suit you, you’re free to go elsewhere.

About pricing: do you seriously think that’s our only selling point? You’re ignoring the R and D, the investment, the testing, the continuous improvements.
What you call pride or self-promotion is simply the confidence of someone who understands his craft, its constraints, its costs and his responsibilities.

If your idea of a good supplier is someone who bends to every whim with no structure, no standards and no consistency, then you’re in the wrong place. We’re not chasing volume at any price. We build serious long-term partnerships.
If that’s not what you’re looking for, don’t turn your exit into a performance. Just leave with a bit of dignity.

It’s quite fascinating really. The guy complains about our products, our prices, our quality, our access, and yet he still tags us in his Instagram posts. So clearly he can get his hands on the goods.
And apparently it’s not costing him an arm and a leg either, since he keeps getting more.

Which is it? Are we overpriced and to be avoided, or good enough to feature proudly in his stories? At some point he’ll have to pick a side. Because criticizing with one hand and equipping yourself with the other is starting to look like shadow-boxing with your own reflection.
(Come on now, hurry up and delete all those MyShank hashtags you’ve plastered all over your profile. Chop chop.)

While I’m working to push this industry forward through real innovation and effort, you’re busy digging the very trench that’s isolating you from those actually building something.

Meanwhile, while some people spend their time playing vinyl sleuths behind keyboards, we’re producing, delivering, developing and equipping the best. You can call it arrogance if it helps you process your frustration. I call it work.

I find it quite telling that while some of us are working 12-hour days designing, testing, producing and delivering, others gather to play amateur detectives, scrutinizing polymers and throwing around vague technical insinuations as if that would move anything forward.

This post was originally just about product availability in the UK. We’re now being asked for lab reports and certificates of authenticity, all from the comfort of a keyboard somewhere between two rounds of performative outrage.

If there’s a genuine desire to contribute to the community, then go all the way. Open a dedicated thread for dissecting MyShank’s products. Blanks, cutterheads, styli, logos, email campaigns. At least that would match the tone taken here.

Otherwise, there’s another path. Make something yourself. Take risks. Confront reality. Dive into precision micromechanics, mathematics, physics, electronics and deal with real technical challenges rather than commenting on those faced by others.

Best of luck with your latest wave of disinterest in the topic.

Thank you for respecting the topic for what it is nothing more, nothing less. It’s really not that complicated.
As for the rest of you who have an issue, feel free to email me directly.

Well, of course, you're a funny and strange person. You've never added me to your social media accounts, no matter how many times I've tried to join. You've always ignored me. You've only removed me from the MyShank website because I haven't purchased anything from you. However, I've repeatedly told you that I can't directly purchase or pay for items outside of Russia due to sanctions. I've purchased items through friends abroad, and they've sent them to me in Russia. This year, I bought several of your diamond stylus pens through my friends. I also bought some of your new stamping dies from a man in the United States. He bought them for himself and sold some of them to me. I've shown you the products I've purchased from you, and I've told you that I need a website to choose the products I want and see how much they cost. However, you removed me from your website for the second time. Your new stamping dies have a lower quality than the PETG sheet plastic. Here are your old clean blank pieces, which were much better than they are now. I still have about 70 of them. I have something to compare them with. They are much better than PETG plastic. The new stamping dies are good because they are shaped like a plate and are beautiful. I'm not saying they shouldn't be purchased, but due to their limited availability, high prices, and similar recording quality to PETG sheets, it's better to choose something that is cheaper and can be purchased in your country. In order to buy yours, you need to pay more, find people who will buy it, and then it will be shipped to Russia, which is very expensive. Yes, I sometimes buy your styluses, like this year, because you have a head that fits my hand, and I don't have to make an adapter or glue it into a new tail, which also requires additional effort. I get all the other items from China, which are of equal quality but cheaper. I'm just saying that you should make your products more accessible to people like me. Many people even write here, asking who has MyShank styluses or blank plates, and who can sell their stock. This is because they can't buy them in stores. I'm not saying you have to lower the price, but make it easier to sell. For example, I can easily buy from eBay. However, if you don't want to, it doesn't mean I can't get styluses and blank plates in Crimea. Your stamping is beautiful, but that's about it. About the fact that I can't write in English. Yes, I don't know it well, my language is Russian and Ukrainian. I don't know English well at all and use translators. You shouldn't immediately treat someone negatively because of this. On my Russian websites and social media, many people also write comments and ask questions from abroad in different languages. I don't tell them to write to me in Russian because the website is in Russian. I'm not a racist, and I'm not too lazy to open an online translator and translate what they've written. I also respond to people's questions in their native language through a translator. However, it can be challenging for me to understand what a person is asking or writing to me. Regarding the MyShank hashtags, there is no advertising involved. In fact, there are no products mentioned in these posts or videos. I have only shared your videos and videos featuring your products a few times. My intention is to increase the visibility of my videos and photos for those who are interested in the topic of record production. Not many people share similar content frequently, but there are many individuals who find this topic engaging, even if it's just to watch other people's videos. They even often write to me so that I don't stop doing it. If you think I'm advertising you. Please, I'm not sorry. I am a kind person and I try to help everyone, especially in this topic of cutting records. If this is a plus for you, why not, it's a sin to complain, especially when a person doesn't ask for anything for it. I treat everyone well, no matter what nationality you are or what country you live in. Just be kind, everyone. All the world over your head and lots of recorded records on your recorders) 🤝🙏
