Hello All,
I've got a new amp (PAS AUDIO 2002 PCA) that needs to be calibrated to a Caruso cutterhead.
The vinylike site says;
"play the 5cm/s test record and attach a meter. read the values. ot mark them on a sticker on the meter.
then cut a 1khz tone mono. both channels.
take the lacquer and play it back on turntable.
compare with the testrecord."
Is is possible to use the Myshank 7cm/s I have?
Both are 1khz frequency, but (flokason) 5cm/s vs (myshank) 7cm/s.
Could someone who's more knowledgeable explain the difference?
Thanks in advance.

Re: 7cm/s vs 5cm/s test record Caruso set-up
They are the same. When you run a mono left and right test tone (like the Ortofon record) the left and right channels are 0db each. So if thinking in mono, It doesn’t just add up to 10 cm/s the two 5cm/s side channels combine into roughly 7 cm/s of actual groove movement in true mono. So a 5cm/s per side test tone ends up the same as a 7 cm/s mono tone, because both channels are working together to create that total sideways velocity.
Basically NAB test records are the same volume, just one does left and right independently and others do it as a mono tone.
We had various test records tested and the final outcome is the same, we just prefer to use the Orofom as it does left and right independently so you can see crosstalk better

Re: 7cm/s vs 5cm/s test record Caruso set-up
It does not matter what you use.
5cm/s is low level today.
But it’s the reference every cartridge is measured with
And using higher ref levels is causing often slight distortion especially if you’re not top aligned and good cartridge. and you mess up your levels
So if you use 5cm/s record set it to -4 on a peak meter
When cutting a 0 then you have a decent regular cut.lp level .
In the end everyone cuts as loud as possible
