Recycling Pucks and Purge Ropes

Once you have cut a master laquer, you have metal stampers created and have records pressed from them. Discuss manufacturing here. (Record Matrix Electroforming- Plating, Vinyl Record Pressing.)

Recycling Pucks and Purge Ropes

Hello all!

We granulate our records and trim but are still trying to figure out what to do with all of our purge material. I know it is inadvisable to throw it in a standard granulator as it risks chipping the blades and introducing metal into the PVC which is of course bad. However, we'd like to recycle everything we can possibly can.

Does anyone out there safely granulate and reuse their purge material? Those of you who don't have a way of recycling your purge, what do you do with it?

Hi
What do you mean by Purge material?? Are you using a purging compound? if so it is useless, if you mean purging the compound that's been sitting there overheated or colour change or just getting a good puck no reason you cannot use it
If you where to take it out as a thick spaghetti with a thick glove in your hand roll it out on a sheet of aluminium from a lacquer rather than letting it pile up in a big lump let it cool down grind it away
By the way there is no way, if you have the right angle of the blades in the granulator the puck or spaghetti style purge or at around teh size of a puck would do it any harm, Not in half life time I have seen that and if you really want some extra safety slacken the belts on the granulator, it will jam rather than chip or break any blades

We have an old Conair Wortex JC-10 granulator we bought used that can handle just about anything. For clear and transparent colors we have to cut the pucks or they sometimes gum up the granulator but besides that we can reclaim everything
