Tips for a beginner

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Tips for a beginner

Hello,

I have purchased Vanrock/Atom 101 lathe cutting machine recently after spending a considerable amount of time researching it and I’m very excited finally to start using it when it arrives.

Meanwhile, I was wondering if any of you experienced people here would be willing to share basic tips that would help someone like me at the beginning of my cutting journey?

Anything really would be much appreciated, dos and donts, suppliers you use etc etc.

Thanks a lot.

Great! Also we have seen some people modify Vanrocks with a vacuum system, might be worth it if diamond cutting rather than embossing

Yes - it’s currently being modified before shipment!

I was looking for a heat lamp like that one on the picture in the link you’ve sent (guide). It looks like it’s made from a kopex conduit, is that a higher wattage lamp fo warming up discs? Where do I find it? My Google search isn’t showing it :) Thank you
