Diamond cutting Stylli Update
Hello all in here
Not far off now we got over the Diamond mafia (I think)
Single crystal diamond on way at affordable prices
PCD that is Poly Crystaline Diamond Did not quite cut the mustard Did not satisfied me
I had some made for us very hard to get them that small
The factory was very accommodating let me say they had a good crack at it
The did them but with very high levels of rejects around the 90% but we did get around 200 of them so their are in "reserve"
We did cut and polished a few
However
The grain is around the 6 microns
This means that the highest polish/finish one can get on the cutting face will be limited to 6 microns
Not a mirror finish
Most likely more than good enough for the above average for direct cutting cut on PVC or lexan etc as it they are very much harder than sapphire or ruby for that matter
No I have not tried them
The effort in mounting them winding the heater cementing them as well as checking them out has put these little guys in "reserve"
We are now getting what we originally started out to do
A sliced single crystal cutting point which will do the trick with mirror finish on it at less then 1-2 microns
Once we get a little better at it the pcd's will certainly be worked on as well and offerd out there
Watchmakers lathe also arrived so as to turn up the shanks besides a Karl Suss 100 x microscope with sliding tables as used in the microelectrinics game has also arrived
Next step is to get our optical rotary positioner jig adapted to handle this little guys
This has an accuracy of .02 of a second of an arc with a reduction ratio of 100 to 1 per degree so it should do the trick better than than using the traditional method of doping them on a dop
Ok so much for now
Will update as soon as samples are on hand
I now know why this has not been attempted before and why the high cost of them
May be I should have kept out of this To late now on with the show
Cheers

First, let me say I am still new to all of this. However, the more I read, the more I learn.
I just purchased a Wilcox Gay Recordette. Is it possible to get/request a Diamond Stylii for one of these machines?
