Clicks & Pops VR issue / not on playback
Hey Guys,
Hope you're all doing great
I have this issue since 2-3 days ago.... When I cut a blanks, there's a load of clicks and pops... but only when cutting and not on playback afterwards. If I take the stylus and drop it a little earlier no clicks. It's only when I'm monitoring while cutting?
Anyone has faced something similar? It just started to do that... very strange
Thanks everyone
Ben

I'm not sure I understand....
So are you getting clicks and pops while cutting, but they do not exist when you play the record back on a turntable?
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by dropping the stylus a little early. Earlier than what? Do you mean dropping it to a lower depth when its in the head?

Sorry for my bad explanation...
When I cut a disc and monitor while cutting.... there's loads of clicks and pops. If I take my playback just a little before in the song... those clicks and pops don't exists in the cut. It's only when my playback head follows the cut.
Also I should mention that when I remove my disc at the end of the side.... there's so much static ... it's pretty intense, I've tried talk powder but it doesn't do much

Re: Clicks & Pops VR issue / not on playback
Are you using a decent anti-static spray, such as Staticide?
Re: Clicks & Pops VR issue / not on playback
I'm actually using Myshank antistatic wax... and it works pretty well for cutting... really smooth and the swarf is always picked up in the tube nicely.
I feel the static really comes from the interaction with the " steel precision plate " and the disc . It never happens during summer, but to hear the big clicks and pops while cutting... this is a first .. it never happened in 5 years.
I don't even know if all the clicks and pops is "static" related... because I still had that static thing the day before it started to do those weird pops and cliks
thanks

Hi,
Try watching with the lights out. You might be able to see the flash of an arc from static buildup with the lights down very low. Another way to check: If you have an old AM radio, set that close to the lathe and tune to a blank area on the dial and see if you can hear the discharge through the radio speaker.

Off topic but - tuning between stations on the AM radio in your car is interesting when you are driving with thunderstorms in the (near) distance. You see the lightning with your eyes and hear the static burst over the radio at the same time - the BOOM comes later. It's weirdly satisfying...
Re: Clicks & Pops VR issue / not on playback
I just checked.... and no signs of little flashes or anything.
It's very annoying... but at least it's not in the playback, I wonder if it's not related to little debris left in the groove after the cut.
maybe, maybe not. On the microscope I cannot see anything wrong

You have too much static, try to put more wax..., but one antistatic pistol.. For me is working, More pression in the diamant more static.
Re: Clicks & Pops VR issue / not on playback
Very old topic, but I like to reply that tics and pops can be a clock problem of your d/a converter / interface not communicating properly with your computer.
I had this problem once. Very difficult to track.

Totally, it's a possibility!
In my case it was static, during winter time, my place is very dry and it was causing clicks during playback but only when I was actually cutting and monitoring
Since i now live at the bottom of the ocean and transformed into a mermaid, there's no more problem with that.

Ahem... you’re a MER-MAN.
Re: Clicks & Pops VR issue / not on playback
Was also thinking that
I have friends from Argentina who chuckle when someone puts a female article in front of a male noun, like La Hombre.
As if the subject has bended from gender
